□ Professor Noh Go-san's research team from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Hanbat National University (President Oh Yong-jun) announced that they received the Best Paper Award at the international conference 'ISPACS 2026 (International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems)' held in Busan from October 27 to 30.
○ ISPACS is an international conference for sharing the latest research achievements in the fields of intelligent signal processing and communication systems. This year’s event was organized by the Korea Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS) with technical co-sponsorship from the Communications Division of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Communications Society).
□ The awarded paper, 'Bayesian-Guided Hierarchical Near-Field Beam Training for Hybrid XL-MIMO Systems,' was co-authored by graduate students Gabriel Kotei Hammond and Joshua Yabana from the University of Hanbat, Professor Noh Go-san, Professor Lee Kyung-jae from Chung-Ang University, and researcher Kim Kyung-pyo from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).
○ This study proposes a technology for efficiently finding user-optimized communication beams in massive multi-antenna systems for next-generation 6G communications.
○ The research team developed a technique that enhances search efficiency by comprehensively utilizing measurement data, and simulations confirmed the potential to improve the efficiency of next-generation wireless communication by achieving high performance with less search than existing methods.
○ This research was conducted with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP) for the Extreme High-Density Multiplexed Input-Output Modulation (E-MIMO) System Technology Development project, the University ICT Research Center (ITRC) program, and ICT Innovation Talent 4.0 (ICAN), a project for nurturing core ICT talents through academic and master's degree linkage.
○ Professor Noh Go-san of the Department of Electronic Engineering and Director of the ITRC 6G Research Center at Hanbat National University said, "This award is a recognition of the students' research and the collaboration between the university and research institutions on the international academic stage," adding, "We will support students in growing into professionals equipped with the research capabilities for core 6G technologies and the ability to contribute to international standardization."
○ Additionally, Professor Young-Bae Jeong of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Hanbat National University, the principal investigator of the ICT Innovation Talent 4.0 project, said, "It is meaningful that support linking undergraduate and graduate education and research has led to international research achievements," adding, "We will continue our efforts to help students gain research experience and grow into professionals."
□ Meanwhile, this achievement is significant as it resulted in tangible outcomes such as the activation of joint research between universities and research institutions and the receipt of an international academic conference award, through the Core Technology Research for 6G Wireless Communication Standardization and the ICT Innovation Talent 4.0 project under the University ICT Research Center (ITRC), both supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), as well as the Glocal Talent Development Project.
