 ○ 대학원 응용소재공학과 이효주 박사과정생이 제1저자로 참여한 해당 논문은 ‘Mechanical behavior of pure Ta exposed to hydrogen at elevated temperatures'로, 고온에서 수소 환경에 노출된 Pure Ta의 수소 영향성을 분석하고, 이에 따른 기계적 거동을 체계적으로 규명한 연구이다.

□ Hanbat National University (President Oh Yong-jun) announced that a research paper presented by graduate student Lee Hyo-joo, a member of Professor Cho Hoon-hwi's research team in the Department of New Materials Engineering, was published on the 28th in the international materials science journal 'Journal of Materials Research and Technology' (IF 7.3, top 9.8% in JCR).

○ The paper, with doctoral candidate Lee Hyo-joo from the Graduate School of Applied Materials Engineering as the first author, titled 'Mechanical behavior of pure Ta exposed to hydrogen at elevated temperatures,' analyzes the hydrogen affect on pure titanium exposed to hydrogen environments at high temperatures and systematically identifies the resulting mechanical behavior.

□ Tantalum (Ta) is a high melting point metal with excellent corrosion resistance, making it highly suitable for use in extreme environments; however, when exposed to hydrogen at high temperatures, its mechanical properties can change due to hydrogen penetration and retention, requiring a systematic understanding.

○ The research team analyzed the temperature-dependent hydrogen retention characteristics of Ta exposed to hydrogen at high temperatures and identified the relationship between hydrogen retention behavior and changes in mechanical properties.

○ In particular, the amount of residual hydrogen varied with exposure temperature, and it was confirmed that the highest residual hydrogen content and hardness were observed at specific temperatures.

○ Furthermore, by observing that strength and hardness increased while elongation decreased with hydrogen exposure, the researchers proposed a correlation between mechanical behavior and hydrogen.

○ These research findings are expected to enhance our understanding of the mechanical behavior of Ta when exposed to hydrogen at high temperatures and to be utilized in evaluating the hydrogen environment reliability of high-temperature metals and in material design across various industries, including aerospace, energy, and materials for extreme environments.
