□ Hanbat National University (President Oh Yong-jun) announced that Professor Bang In-gyu of the Department of Intelligent Media Engineering received the 'Excellent Paper Award in the Engineering Field' at the 36th Science and Technology Excellent Paper Awards ceremony hosted by the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies on the 30th.
○ The Outstanding Science and Technology Paper Award, established in 1991, is given to scientists and engineers who have published excellent papers in domestic academic journals through creative research activities.
○ Award-winning papers are selected by evaluating academic contribution and creativity based on recommendations from domestic academic organizations, contributing to raising the quality of scientific and technological research in Korea and promoting outstanding research achievements.
□ Professor Bang's award-winning paper, "Convolutional Neural Network-Based Physical Layer Authentication for Falsely Attacking," was published in Volume 50, Issue 8 of the Journal of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences in August 2025.
○ This study proposed an authentication method that combines the device's inherent physical characteristics with artificial intelligence technology, specifically convolutional neural networks, to counter 'fake attacks' where attackers impersonate legitimate devices over wireless LAN.
○ Professor Bang's research team confirmed through experiments that performance degrades in channel state information-based authentication due to device movement, and to address this, they proposed an authentication method utilizing the device's inherent hardware characteristic of 'IQ imbalance,' evaluating its performance through simulation.
○ This research was supported by the National Hanbat University National University Development Project's '2024 Small Group Research Group Support Program,' and involved graduate student Hanol Oh (an undergraduate at the time of thesis submission), Professor Ji-Hwan Moon of Mobile Convergence Engineering, and Professor Tae-Hoon Kim of Computer Engineering, all currently enrolled in the master's program.
□ Professor Inkyu Bang stated, "This research is significant in that it analyzes security vulnerabilities and proposes solutions that leverage the physical characteristics of devices and artificial intelligence, as wireless communication has become an essential foundation across daily life and industry."
