논문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 개인적 정의감에 입각해 사회와 불화하고 폭력을 자행하는 인간형에 대해탐색함으로써 손창섭 장편소설의 의미를 재고하고자 한다. 의협은 사회적 규범을 어겨가면서까지 자신만의 정의를 고수하는 반사회적 의미를 가진 개념이다. 의협의 서사는우리나라 고전소설에서 유교적인 충의 윤리와 결합한 소설들로 나타나거나 일제강점기 소설에서 역사를 배경으로 지배층의 윤리와 질서를 따르기보다 자신만의 정의를무력으로 추구함으로써 체제의 안정성을 깨뜨리는 인물에 대한 서사로 나타난다. 「낙서족」은 일제강점기를 배경으로 독립운동가의 아들이라는 호명이 가진 구조적, 상징적폭력에 분노하며 박치기와 폭탄 제조, 협박과 강간 등 물리적 폭력으로 자신만의 의협을 발휘하는 주인공을 내세운다. 「저마다 가슴 속에」는 부패한 권력과 속물적 처세술에 저항해 자신만의 교육관을 추구하며 소동을 일으키는 교사 천봉우를 주인공으로 내세우지만 이면에서 이러한 의협의 가능성에 대한 의구심을 드러낸다. 「인간교실」과 「아들들」, 「길」 등 손창섭의 60년대 장편소설 속 의협의 세계는 개인적 정의와 물리적 폭력 사이에 일정한 균열을 나타내고, 개인적 정의에 입각한 의협이 개발독재 사회의 현실에서 무의미한 폭력으로 귀결하거나 자본주의 가부장제 질서로 회귀할 뿐임을보여준다. 그러나 협객의 활약과 무뢰한의 소동은 이후 개발독재 사회체제가 강화되면될수록 현실도피적 욕망의 대상으로 부각되기도 한다. This study aims to search a character who is in discord with society and commits violence based on his own justice and reconsider the meaning of Son, Chang-seop’s novels. Chivalry has anti-social meaning that a hero adheres to his own justice despite of violating social rules. The narrative on chivalry is expressed with ancient heros novels which connected Confucianism morals and history novels which a hero does not observe the rule or morals of the ruling class’s but pursues of his own justice with violence and breaks the social structure stability in the novels at colonial age. In “A scribble race”, the chivalric hero as a son of fighter for national independence gets angry with the structural and symbolic violence and commits physical violence like heading, making bombs, threat and rape etc.. In “In everybody’s heart” shows a chivalric violence which a teacher hero pursues his own sense of education against to a snob rule of life and corrupted power but shows a doubt to the possibility of the hero’s chivalry. The chivalry in Son, Chang-seop’s novels at 1960s like “A human class”, “Sons” and “A road” shows a crack between a private justice and physical violences and exposes the back side that the chivalry based on private justice ends meaningless violence or capitalism patriarchal rule in development despotism society. But chivalric action and a rough commotion becomes the object of desire for escape from reality according to the social rule of development despotism strengthening.
