(Abstract)

This study aims to search the discourses of science and experiment and to explainthe relations the discourses and the novels at 1910s with the magazines likes, and . In the situation of the Choseoncolony 1910s, the discourses on new theory of science, experiment, technology wasa reading for culture or a reading for curious stimulation. In the case that the discourseson science regards as a normal culture(common sense), the scientific technology presentsan educational and optimistic vision in the novels of 1910s. Especially in the novelsabout Kyeongseong after exhibition at 1915(, ), the new-educated youngman hero shows an optimistic vision for futurewith learning science and technology and with demanding to development of industry. This vision which a modern science and technology regards as a sublime objects hasa limit that it change the political problem of colony for the educational problem ofcivilization. The educated youngman in 1910s realized a new modern scientifictechnology with the sound of bomb, while the educated man in 1900s realized it withthe sound of bell or sound of whistle. But in situation of 1910s, both the scientifictheories and the methods like experiment, observation and reasoning were just objectsfor imagination not objects for reality. So a laboratory represented a mysterious spacein that the latest science unites with a magical mystery. Yi, Gwangsu's represents a chemical laboratory as a space of curious mystery and shows how a colonialeducated youngman goes to mad and die because of his desire for a new scientificinvention.
