논문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 채만식의 <탁류>를 여성의 몸에 대한 남성의 양가적인 매혹과 공포, 가부장제 속 여성의 저항 가능성으로서 히스테리라는 측면에서 살펴보려 한다. <탁류>에서 초봉은 주변에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 평범한 여성으로 가정되지만 그녀의 육체를 바라보는 남성들의 양가적인 시선, 성녀와 창녀의 이중성 속에서 파멸해간다. 그 과정에서 그녀의 육체는 남성 인물들에게 매혹적인 동시에 공포스러운 것으로 이해된다. 초봉의 육체가 가진 위험성은 후반부로 갈수록 히스테리를 통해 긍정적인 힘을 얻는다. 근대 가부장제 사회에서 히스테리는 여성의 욕망을 비정상으로 몰아 통제하는 수단인 동시에 남성의 언어로 말하지 못하는 여성이 자신의 욕망을 표현하는 방법이 되기도 한다. 이성에 입각한 근대 자본주의 사회에서 새로이 발견된 ‘교육적인 어머니’가 헌신적인 모성을 가진 ‘본능적 어머니’를 없애는 기구로서 존재하고 있다면, 히스테리는 이와 달리 섹슈얼리티와 육체를 가진 어머니의 상을 드러내준다. 초봉은 가부장제 질서에 입각한 어머니의 도덕에서 벗어나 히스테리를 모방함으로써 복종과 패배로 점철된 운명에서 벗어나게 된다. <탁류>의 결말에서 초봉이 형보에게 가하는 폭력은 본능적 모성에 입각한 히스테리적인 것으로, 초봉이 식민지 자본주의 사회의 희생자로만 남지 않으며 적극적인 저항을 표출하는 존재로 재해석될 여지를 남긴다. This study aims to consider Chae, Man－sik’s from the side of ambivalent charm and fear which men feel to woman body, and of hysteria which can women stand up to. In that works, Cho－bong is supposed to a common woman but she is ruined with man’s ambivalent eyes, both a holy woman and a prostitute. In that course, her body gives charm and fear to men at the same time. The danger of her body gets a positive power through hysteria as time goes by. In modern patriarch society, hysteria controls women’ desire through that drive into insanity and can make women who can’t speak with man’s language to express her desire. While a educational mother newly found in rational modern capitalism society removes a instinctive mother devote herself to her child, hysteria makes disclose the figure of mother who has sexuality and body. Cho－bong gets out of the destiny interspersed obedience and defeat through copying hysteria and escaping from her mother’s moral which stands the patriarch system. Cho－bong’s violence to Jang, Hyeong－bo based on instinctive maternity is hysterical, which makes reexplain her social meaning from a victim of the colonial capitalism society to a resistant to that society.
