논문 초록 (Abstract)

The regeneration of propane dehydrogenation (PDH) catalysts via oxychlorination was investigated with 0.5 wt% Pt supported on porous γ-alumina (γ-Al2O3) and silica (SiO2) through a cycle consisting of ‘a PDH reaction at 853 K’, ‘coke burning with air at 823 K’ and ‘oxychlorination by HCl-N2-air at 823 K’, using a fixed-bed reactor. The catalyst samples were taken in various steps, and characterized by elemental mapping by high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and CO pulse chemisorption. In this investigation, both the Pt/γ-Al2O3 and Pt/SiO2 catalysts had very highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles until the end of the first PDH reaction run. The subsequent coke-burning treatment caused very severe agglomeration of the Pt particles in the case of Pt/SiO2, whereas agglomeration occurred on a much smaller scale in the Pt/γ-Al2O3 case. Further agglomeration of Pt particles occurred during the oxychlorination in Pt/SiO2. In contrast, with the Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalyst, the re-dispersion of Pt into smaller nanoparticles by oxychlorination occurred. Thus, metal-support interactions were important in the coke-burning step and also during oxychlorination. Similar to the case of the monometallic Pt catalyst, PtSn, PtZn and PtGa were also investigated as supported on γ-Al2O3. The results indicated that Sn was a proper choice for catalyst re-dispersion.
